Commander Damien Fernando of the Sri Lanka Navy, who won the “Ranaviru Real
Star” title with his exceptional singing and created history claiming the
coveted trophy at the inaugural event, was presented with a new house today
(04th June 2011). The keys to the new house, located at Battaramulla, were
handed over to him by Chairperson of the Seva Vanitha Unit of the Ministry of
Defence Mrs. Ioma Rajapakasa. President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs.
Neluka Dissanayake, Commander Western Naval Area Rear Admiral Damayantha
Dharmasiriwardene, Directors General of the Navy and a large number of well
wishers were present on the occasion.
The famed “Ranaviru” musical personality, Commander Damien, beaming with
happiness moved into the new house with his wife, Lieutenant Commander (Rtd)
Kaushalya Opatha Fenando and his loving children, Kalsha (9), Cecilia (6) and
baby Sebian (5 ½ months) who were elated with joy to share their beloved
father’s happiest moments in life. It was a special occasion for the Commander
Damien’s “Navy Family” for they will now be living in a new home, which has
incidentally been built by the Navy they too have been members of.
The two story house exclusively built for the first ever reality TV show for
tri-forces, organized by the Ministry of Defence, comes fully furnished with all
amenities. Engineering personnel of the Navy completed the construction of the
luxurious house valued at 15 million rupees within 02 months under the direction
of Director General Naval Engineering.
